Extra Large Dog Bed

A Guide to Choosing an Extra Large Dog Bed

You need to put some thought into buying an extra large dog bed. Don’t just buy the first one you come across, as it may not be suitable for your doggy at all. There are many fabrics, colors, styles, mattresses, and accessories to choose from, so you need to make sure you get your dog the best bed possible.

You should determine how large the bed should be in order for your dog to be comfortable on it.  Most extra large breeds can weigh eighty pounds or more, and you should buy a bed that he/she can comfortably curl up in or on.  Many people make the mistake of buying a bed that is too small, with the poor dog hanging out over the sides!

It can be more difficult to choose an extra large dog bed than a smaller one.  This is because bigger doggies require a bit more.  One thing you may want to consider is real furniture.  This will help keep your big guy off your furniture.  Also, this type of bed is a lot more comfortable than standard beds.  You may want to consider getting a bed that is filled with memory foam.  Some are made to conform to a dog’s musculature.

If your dog isn’t yet fully grown, then think of his/her eventual size when buying an extra large dog bed.  You’ll save a lot of money this way instead of buying a new puppy bed every few months.  A few years ago beds for extra large dogs were very limited, so thankfully there are a lot more choices now.

Practicality is also something you should consider.  Think about how you are going to wash the bed.  If you don’t have time to hand wash it, you’ll be glad to know that some extra large ones can be washed in a washing machine!
